National established as a grocery store in Westmount back in 1927. National has been managed and operated by the Cho family since 1973, when Mathew and Susan Cho purchased the store from the previous owner. Mr. Cho’s vision and goal has always been to provide the best quality products along with exceptional customer service and it has been carried down for generations as the underlying principles of National Food Shop.

Customers can always rely on National to carry the highest quality fruits and vegetables. Produce is hand-picked every morning at the market and hand-picked again in-store to filter out poor quality. This attention to quality and detail has always set National apart from the competition where the same standards can not be matched.

National also prides themselves on customer service and relations. Many customers are known and greeted by name and the staff is keen on knowing the personal preferences and catered needs of individual customers. Years of trust and loyalty between business and customer has helped solidify lasting relationships.

National relocated to their current location (a block away from its original location) in 1992. Mr. Cho continued to grow the business with his wife and children, Sophie and John. A salad bar, sushi bar and prepared foods section was added over the years to cater to the needs of community and keep up with the trends of society.

Today, National continues to be a family operated company led by second and third generations.
